2000 Annual Report Executive Summary

Greater Portsmouth Enterprise Community

The year 2000 was the first full year in which the Greater Portsmouth Enterprise Community (GPEC) functioned without any of the original Social Services Block Grant support. However, most of our active benchmarks have secured funding from other sources and GPEC continues to make substantial progress toward their stated goals.

New funding received during the year totaled $12,603,647. Of that amount $10,597,600 came from the private sector through new investment or grants from private foundations.

The board of the Greater Portsmouth Enterprise Community Corporation and its provider partners are actively seeking appropriate support for new and existing benchmarks. Funding requests as of December 31, 2000 totaled $5,754,250.

Three new benchmarks (43-44 and 45) became active during calendar year 2000. Benchmarks 43 and 45 obtained full funding support and are currently providing services. Preliminary planning efforts were completed for benchmark 44 and applications for funding have been made.

A total of thirteen benchmarks have been made inactive, eleven for positive reasons. Numbers 4-5-8-9-11-13-28 and 42 reached their scheduled termination dates having reached or exceeded their stated objectives. Number 24 terminated after attaining 60% of its goal.

Activities and services included in numbers 4-8-9-11 and 13 have been incorporated into broader based county-wide programs. The results of number 42 will form the basis of a new benchmark centered on Information Technology as a source of jobs within the GPEC.

Benchmarks 19-20-21 and 22 have been made inactive due to lack of funding support. The change of status has been made with the concurrence of the sponsoring group. The board will re-activate any or all of the four should appropriate funding sources be identified.
