Glades Communities Champion Community
The Glades communities achieved several goals for year 2001. Palm Beach County awarded $606,596 to eight small businesses for infrastructure, construction, machinery and equipment expenses. The businesses have contracted to create a total of 49 full-time jobs. The City of Belle Glade acquired an additional 50 acres for the Belle Glade Business Park for a total of 100 acres. Enterprise Florida awarded $600,000 to Belle Glade to assist with the infrastructure for a business project moving into the park. The City of Pahokee leased its marina and campground to a management group to redevelop and market the marina/campgrounds. The City of South Bay completed its multi-purpose nature park for sports and events. The EDGE Center, Inc. and the Business Loan Fund of the Palm Beaches, Inc. have assisted several entrepreneurs through business incubation and micro-loans.
