2001 Annual Report Executive Summary

North Delta Mississippi Enterprise Community

The Year 2001 was very eventful for North Delta Mississippi Enterprise Community. This year has been one of actualizing many goals that had been set at the beginning of the designation. From sporting a new logo, staff changes and opening our own set of offices to accepting housing complaints through our new Fair Housing Clinic, days ahead are both promising and purposeful as we look forward with great expectation to carrying out the work at hand. Leadership has changed hands with the replacement of Stewart Guernsey with Board President and now Interim Administrator Robert Avant. And although some of the players have changed and roles reversed, the direction is still the same—empowerment and addressing the needs and concerns of our residents and improving their lives. The first major step made this year began within. All staff assumed a more active role in many facets of the work. We brought on one new full-time person for the Fair Housing Program in addition to two other staff persons taking on additional roles and responsibilities in that program. One example of the success of this strategy is the benchmarks. You might note that much more activity has been recorded. That’s because there are two people involved in capturing data and matching it up to benchmarks before entry into the system, as opposed to the secretary being told by one person what to enter into the computer. Actual planning and strategizing for the Enterprise Community now involves input from all staff in setting objectives and goals and seeing them through. By including all staff in the whole process, a synergistic effort was created along with ownership and a broader base of knowledge. There has been activity recorded on practically every Benchmark through partnerships, collaborations, or EC driven projects.
