The Williamsburg Enterprise Community Commission, Inc. (WECC) has had a year commensurate with being distinguished as the Enterprise Community of the year. The agency’s multiple programs have served every facet of community life. This includes education, housing, leadership development, community relations, food distribution, credit counseling and saving money. 

The WECC was the only community organization in Williamsburg County breaking ground on community and race relations. When many other Commissions were faltering, the WECC was expanding capacity to build the first of its kind 24-lot subdivision called Williamsburg Place Subdivision. This uniquely located housing paradise will allow low to moderate income persons to own upscale first class single family homes. The Enterprise Community (E/C) staff has prepared a pool of candidates for ownership using grant funds to recruit applicants and conduct classes. To expand the job market, and therefore the economy, the WECC has partnered with the local technical college and Faith Based churches to qualify trades and craftsmen for licenses for jobs and small business loans. Once qualified and businesses are operational the owner have gone out and hired locals for employment. Business owners could also borrow money from the E/C’s Small Business Development Center for business expansion. Our community partnered with such agencies as the Waccamaw Area Family Care givers Support Program and Partners in Achieving Independents through Recovery and self-sufficiency to build ramps for disabled persons and do modest renovations on homes. Just as education has adopted the approach “no child left behind,” the WECC is determined that no neighborhood or community needs are ignored. That concern spawn Leadership Williamsburg to mold our best and our brightest into assets and bring us all together through the newly created Williamsburg County Community Relation Council. We have trained some of our young adults for jobs as carpenters, plumbers and roofers working on homes that our residents so desperately needed repairing. We also fed the hungry and if they had no place to stay, we provided housing and family life skills in our transitional housing units. 

The WECC has had its challenges over the last eight years, but it has over come. Our future promises production and efficiency far beyond our past.
