1999 Annual Report Executive Summary*

Williamsburg County/Lake City Enterprise Community

The Williamsburg Enterprise Community, Inc. (WECC) accomplished much in many ways over the last months. The organization transitioned under different leadership yet maintained its commitment to benchmark goals and the strategic plan. Those two documents were guidelines used by the board and steering committee to allocate resources of time, money and personnel. We repaired homes using USDA Housing Preservation Grant funds and administered a HOME grant for the county replacing three additional homes. The Business Development Center simplified the loan process and application, shortening the loan completion. Business seminars were conducted and a business incubator was created. Classes for entrepreneurs were conducted along with community outreach on race relations and a survey was completed to sample public opinion about race and local politics. The surveys were conducted at community fairs and tract meetings. The results will be used to determine allocation of EC resources. Transitional housing provided housing services to over 50 residents, 30 of whom later went on to independent living. Race relations luncheon receptions and a retreat was conducted along with tract meetings and outreach.
