Community Overview:
Barton County is located in the middle of central Kansas. The primary industries are oil and gas, agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism.
Barton County is the location of Cheyenne Bottoms, which is halfway down the central flyaway for migrating birds. Both ecology tourism and hunting provide an opportunity for avid outdoors people.
The old Santa Fe Grail wonders through the county adding a flavor of the old west history.
Barton County has three major communities: The Cities of Great Bend, Hoisington, and Ellinwood.

Areas of the Barton County Strategic Plan encompass, housing, community attitudes, support for existing industry and business development, education, land use, workforce training, and travel/tourism.
Partnerships
Annual strategic planning is co-sponsored by a grant from the Catholic Health Initiative.
Community
Involvement:
Barton County Economic Development Commission co-sponsors an annual strategic planning meeting. The meeting includes evaluation and celebration of the past year's accomplishments as well as prioritizing future needs.
