• Faribault County is located in south central Minnesota. 

• The south side of Faribault County borders northern Iowa. 

• Faribault County has experienced high levels of out-migration in the past 15 years.  

• Over the past 2 years, Faribault County has lost an average of 177 persons per year.

Community Overview:

Faribault County must plan for it’s future!  If the current rate of out-migration continues, the population will be zero by the year 2091.  Our aging population and high dependency on farming, lack of professional economic opportunities and amenities for young families are factors in this out-migration. 

Faribault County has struggled to maintain its excellence during a time when many rural communities are stressed.  Although our population has been declining, our strong moral fiber has risen above crisis and adversity.  We have a long history of working together and sharing information between not only city and township, but also from church to church and business to business within the county.

Strategic Plan Highlights:  

With the implementation of the communities' strategic plan, the community will move forward on its vision to develop a better community and society. The community plans to:

• Promote quality education and life long learning to all members of the community;
• Support agriculture and the families and industries related to this key industry;
• Maintain and support programs that maintain the high quality of life in the region;
• Promote the environment through educational and community efforts;
• Provide quality housing for those who live in or want to live in the region;
• Further develop the willingness of the community to act as a cohesive unit;
• Maintain and improve the healthcare and human and public services;
• Provide a high quality workforce and create and attract jobs to the region;
• Improve the retention of our youth and develop the services to satisfy their needs; and,
• Provide technology, and services to remove the isolation of the community.

Community Involvement:

Outreach to the residents in Faribault County consists of press releases, articles in local newspapers, agency newsletters, community visits and public meetings.   A county level newsletter is published quarterly by the Faribault County Commissioners.  The grass roots Rural Response Team (who originally formulated our strategic plan) continues to meet on a regular basis.
